Brisbane CA Information
Brisbane is located in the county of San Mateo’s northern part and at the foot of the San Bruno Mountain. It was incorporated on November 27, 1961. It has a sister city, Brisbane in Australia, from where it supposedly got its name. Others say the city was named after an American newspaper editor, Arthur Brisbane.
It is a Christmas tradition that every home and every office in the city display beautiful illuminated stars on their rooftops. Others leave these stars all year round. For this, Brisbane has been known as the “City of the Stars”.
The approximate population is at 4,000 but becomes larger during workdays because of the workers who commute into the community. It is an employment center between the city of San Francisco and the San Francisco International Airport. Monster Cable, Hitachi, BiRite Food Distributors are the top three employers of Brisbane with more than 500 employees each working for them.
The average winter temperature is at about 54 degrees and the summer temperature at about 74 degrees with rainfall mostly during the months of December to March.
In education, the city has two elementary schools and a middle school which is being run by the Brisbane School District while the four high schools are under the Jefferson Union High School District. The San Mateo Community College District provides post high school and vocational, adult, and lower division courses. There are also a number of universities and graduate schools nearby like the University of California Berkeley and the University of California San Francisco.
Also located in Brisbane is Sierra Point, a small peninsula extending into the San Francisco Bay where numerous high quality or Class A offices such as the Dakin and Hitachi Building are situated.
A scene from the 1971 movie entitled “Harold and Maude” was shot in Glaucas’ Studio, the former location of the Southern Pacific Railroad Bayshore Yard in Brisbane.
