Burlingame

Population is approximately 28,000.  The total land area is 4.3 square miles.  Burlingame citizens are mostly wealthy.  The median household income is about $70,000.  Homes are priced from $200,000 to more than $3,000,000.  Boston Red Sox pitcher, Francis Cooke owns a home here.  Famous California artist, Percy Gray, lived in this city in the early 1900’s.

Burlingame CA Information

Named after Anson Burlingame, an American lawyer, diplomat, and legislator, the City of Burlingame is situated 13 miles south of the city of San Francisco.  It is a city in the second richest county in the State of California and the fourteenth richest county in the United States, which is the County of San Mateo.

Climate is moderate.  The hills shelter the city from heavy fogs and strong winds.  Sunny days are enjoyed from the months of April to October and rainy days from the months of November to March.  In July, temperatures range from 54 degrees to 82 degrees and in January, from 39 degrees to 57 degrees.

There are a number of parks in Burlingame like the Bayside Park with lighted fields for sports like soccer, baseball, and softball, a dog exercise area and cycling, jogging, and walking trails, the Cuernavaca Park, with a view of the Bay and planes landing at the San Francisco Airport, has a children’s playground and a basketball court, and the Washington Park, the oldest in Burlingame and was once the location of the Gunst Estate, has tennis courts, picnic areas, playground and baseball facilities.  The other parks are for neighborhood use.

Burlingame also has museums.  The Kohl mansion was built for music education and parties, and where Flubber, a Robbin Williams movie, was filmed.  The Burlingame Museum of Pez Memorabilia features a collection of over 400 PEZ candy dispensers, puzzles, watches, and books to learn more about the toy’s history.

The educational system in Burlingame is outstanding.  Two of California’s best school districts, the Burlingame Elementary School District and the San Mateo Union High School District, serve the children of this city.  Just 15 minutes away is one of the oldest educational institutions in California, the University of San Francisco.
