Crockett California Information

Crockett is located in the county of Contra Costa, in San Francisco’s north on the Carquinez Strait, considered to be the most significant wildlife migratory corridor in the state of California.

The first American home in this city was built in 1867 near the Carquinez Strait by Thomas Edwards, Sr.  The land on which this home was built was bought from Judge J.B. Crockett.

Generations of families and newcomers as well reside in Crockett who fell in love with the city because of its charm and an atmosphere of a small town.  The approximate population is 3,200.  The average price of a single family home or a condo as of the early part of 2006 is at $525,000, a good investment since Crockett is within driving distance of Tahoe, Pacific, and the Wine Country.

Crockett is known as the home of the C & H Pure Cane Sugar corporate headquarters.  A gateway to the river delta region along the county of Contra Costa’s northern edge, the Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline is also a major spot in Crockett wherein hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, plant identification, and wildlife viewing are some of the activities offered. The Crockett Historical Museum features memorabilia from the towns past and also from the C & H Sugar Refinery.

There are a lot of events in Crockett like the Easter Egg Hunts, Christmas Dance, Bocce Leagues, regular town meetings, yard sales, clean-ups, and barbeques, and the Monarch Butterfly release, which are all well-attended.

San Francisco Bay Area’s first major bridge, part of Interstate 80, built in 1927, was the Carquinez Bridge, which links Crockett to Vallejo to the north, Port Costa and Martinez to the east, Rodeo and Hercules to the south.  With no traffic, Crockett is just about 15 minutes from the Bay Bridge.
