Santa Cruz California Information

Monterey Bay, on California’s North Central Coast, is flanked by two counties – Monterey to the South and Santa Cruz County to the North.

Santa Cruz County is South of San Francisco Bay and its fertile fields and mild climate have made the area a preferred site for grape growing and vinting.  The David Bruce and Martin Ray Wineries are two award winning vineyards located within Santa Cruz County – and wine making plays an important role in the area’s employment and overall economy.

Santa Cruz County is populated with 21 cities and towns of which Santa Cruz is the County Seat and the county’s largest city.

About a 72 mile drive to San Francisco, Santa Cruz is the home of the University of California at Santa Cruz and has a significant residency of workers in the high technology field due to the city’s proximity to Silicon Valley.

The beautiful Scotts Valley, located in the county’s center, and surrounded by redwood forests, houses much of the high tech population of the county.  The influx of these upper-income technicians has significantly increased real estate values in selected area within Santa Cruz County.

Recreationally, Santa Cruz is renowned for its world class surfing and is often referred to as “Surf City”.  In fact, California surfing began in Santa Cruz way back in 1885 – and annual surfing contests draw participants from all over the world to Santa Cruz surf breaks, such as Steamer’s Lane and Pleasure Point, areas famed for some of the best surfing waves in the world.

Still another popular Santa Cruz attraction is the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, California’s oldest amusement park and a designated historic state landmark.

In Santa Cruz County, like most of California, particularly the most desirable areas, the price of real estate has escalated dramatically over the years and particularly in recent times.  Although many beautiful residences and residential areas are to be found within the county, ownership has become difficult for many people.
