Lying approximately 40 miles north of the bustling metropolis of Sacramento, the county has a total land area of 631 square miles and a population of 67,153 as of 2005. It was one of the original counties of the State of California, created in 1850, the same time as the statehood. Original parts of the county were eventually given to the newly formed counties of Placer (1851), Nevada (1851), and Sierra (1852). These three (3) counties along with the counties of Sutter, Butte, and Plumas, form the boundaries of Yuba County. Its boundaries stretch from the farms and orchards of of the valley to the timberlands of the Sierras. The Yuba County seat is located in the City of Marysville. Only two hours away from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, Yuba County is also the gateway to the historic Mother Lode Country.
